All about CBD Oil Vaping

If you are familiar with CBD products, then the word vaping or CBD vaping will not sound strange to you. In case you are just coming across the word for the first time, and you are wondering what it means, then this article is for you. In this article, we shall discuss everything you need to know about CBD vaping.

Why is it popular?

It is quite impossible to discuss the benefits of CBD or the mode of administering CBD without mentioning vaping. This is because it plays a critical role in the way CBD products like e-liquid and CBD juices are taken.

Vaping is one of the commonly utilized methods of taking or administering CBD. It is often regarded as the best method of using CBD since it offers users fast reaction time, high bioavailability of CBD, and a better rate of absorption. Vaping involves the inhalation of CBD vapors directly into the lungs. This direct inhalation of CBD into the lungs creates the best scenario where the CBD in products are released without depending on enzymatic activation in the liver (first-pass metabolism).

Vaping CBD grants immediate access to the benefits of CBD with an average bioavailability of 50%. This is an improvement on what is obtainable with CBD edibles, which takes about 30 minutes before the effects are unlocked.  CBD edibles and tinctures tend to exhibit a lower level of bioavailability.

It is easier to handle CBD vapes than CBD oils, tinctures, and capsules. Vapes are easier to carry around, and the mode of administration is quite simple; fill the cartridge, light the vape pen, and inhale the vapor.

What are the types of vaping products (Equipment)?

While all vapes are created solely for the purpose of inhaling CBD vapors, they differ in their design and mode of operation. The only thing common with CBD oil vaping is the fact that they all contain four basic components:

  • battery
  • atomizer or heating element
  • mouthpiece
  • chamber to hold the material to be vaped

The function of the vaporizer is to heat up the CBD product placed in the chamber so that the user can easily inhale the vapors via the mouthpiece. CBD vapes come in different categories which include the following:

Vape Pens

This makes vaping very easy. CBD Vape pens feature a chamber with a metal heating coil in the bottom that vaporizes the concentrated CBD isolate placed on the coils. The major challenge with vape pens is the fact that the coil needs to be replaced occasionally when it burns out. The cost of changing the coils may become unbearable over time. Failure to change the damaged heating coils can lead to a slow breakdown and oxidation through repeated use. This allows for the passage of nanoparticles into the vaped products, thus, putting the lungs in danger.

Vape Tanks

This is one of the commonly encountered types of vape you can find in the market.  These vapes require a combination of e-liquid (material to be vaped), a mixture of propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavorings, and CBD. It features a heating coil wrapped with silica, nylon, or cotton wick to absorb the e-liquid into the coils. The tanks come in two different styles; disposable and refillable tanks. Disposable vapes are easier to use since they utilize a prefilled, disposable cartridge.

How To Vape

The easiest way to use a CBD vape is to study the product leaflet accompanying the Vape pen or tank. The type of product determines the mode of operation of each vaping product. For clarity, here are some common ways to vape CBD.

  1. Get your CBD vape starter kit
  2. Choose the CBD isolate flavor that suits your taste.
  3. Place the item CBD product in the chamber and switch on the vaporizer
  4. Inhale the smoke slowly into your lungs.

Types of CBD vape oil?

Depending on the concentration of chemicals in the vape oil, vape oils are classified as a full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or CBD isolates. Full-spectrum CBD vape oils are equivalent to vaping the whole cannabis or marijuana plant extract. They contain all the naturally occurring compounds in the cannabis plant, including CBD, THC, CBG, CBC, CBN, and terpenes. Full-spectrum CBD vape oils are great at offering a vast array of benefits to users. Unlike Full-spectrum CBD vape oils, broad-spectrum Vape oils contain all the naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant except for THC. CBD isolate contains about 99% of CBD and is great at providing a healthy dose of CBD in places where the use of THC is illegal or may predispose users to fail a drug test.

Health risks with vaping

Although vaping CBD is a harmless activity, reports have shown that vape pens and tanks may contain some chemicals, which predispose users to a high risk of developing lung damage.

There seems to be an outbreak of a national e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury (EVALI) in all 50 states of the US. Information published by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that as at February 4, 2020, a total of 2, 758 hospitalized EVALI cases or deaths have been reported from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands (US territories). About 64 deaths have been confirmed in 28 states and the District of Columbia as of February 4, 2020.

Alternative to vaping

Since the use of vapes may predispose users to severe lung damage, CBD users are seeking an alternative way to gain access to the right CBD dose without side effects. Some of the common alternatives to vaping include but are not limited to the following;

  1. CBD capsules
  2. CBD edibles/gummies
  3. CBD isolates/concentrates

Vaping CBD is great at producing an increased bioavailability, absorption of CBD, and fast reaction. Vapes are easy to move with and can be used anytime.
